Giant Candy Sleigh for Christmas

This Candy Sleigh is the cutest I have seen in a long time. It’s different from the typical candy cane sleighs in that it uses large candy cane tubes, movie candy boxes, chips, and other fun Christmas gifts perfect for kids, teens, and adults to make a giant candy sleigh for Christmas.

Candy Sleighs

When Christmas approaches, you’ll often find me crafting in the kitchen or at the craft table. In years past, the kids and I have made Christmas crafts like this toilet paper tube snowman craft, paper plate angel craft, a nativity ornament for the kids to make, and this fun candy sleigh craft.

What I love about this candy sleigh is that it is not the typical candy cane sleighs all over the web. This candy sleigh is made with fun full-sized candy that you can usually find at the Dollar Tree. Once Halloween is over, the candy aisles are typically stocked with fun Christmas candy, including candy cane tubes and chocolate Santas. Of course, if you don’t find the candy at the Dollar Tree, most other stores will have what you need.

What You’ll Love About this Craft

  • It is a great Christmas gift for kids, teens, and adults to enjoy
  • This candy sleigh is sturdy enough to add fun items like ornaments, gift cards, and more fun gifts everyone will love
  • This giant candy sleigh is easy to make. Once you make one of them, you’ll have a system down and you’ll be able to create several more in minutes.

Supplies You’ll Need

  • Candy Cane Tubes – these are those plastic candy cane tubes typically filled with Hershey’s Kisses, M&Ms, Mini Reese’s, and Mini Hershey Bars. The kind you stuff the stocking with
  • Movie Candy Boxes – Like sno-caps, Mike&Ike, Reese’s Pieces, M&Ms, Skittles, Milk Duds, and more.
  • Chocolate Santas – I love the Santas I found. Because it is only the middle of October, I had to order Crisp Kringle Chocolate Santas, but I think they are perfect for this sleigh craft.
  • Wire Edged Ribbon – 1.5 inches wide wire-edged ribbon, to be exact. I found a Christmas ribbon at the Dollar Tree.
  • Christmas Bows
  • A Christmas Card – The ones I used are about 5″x8″ but anything that is 4 inches wide should do the trick. This is used to support the weight of the chips, trinkets, and Santa.
  • Snack Sized Chips – I used 1 oz. Sized individual chip bags.
  • Ornament – or trinket to add a final touch. I found a set of two-star ornaments at Dollar Tree.

Equipment Needed

Clear Tape

Low-Temp Glue Gun

Tacky Glue or Double Sided Tape

How to Make Large Candy Sleighs for Christmas

Stack two movie candy boxes together. The larger one should be on the bottom.

Use double-sided tape or glue to secure them together

candy boxes

Flip the stacked boxes over and align the candy tubes so that the bottom of them are hanging over by at least one inch.

Glue the candy cane tubes to the bottom of the stacked boxes. The tubes should be glued to the outer edges of the boxes and look like sleigh runners.

*Tip – After a couple of tries, I discovered that moving the candy boxes to the edge of the counter so the curved part of the candy cane tubes could hang over was the best way to glue the tubes to the boxes

Cut a long enough piece of ribbon to wrap around the boxes and tubes

Wrap the ribbon around the center of the boxes and tubes. Pull it so it fits snugly and glue at the seam at the bottom of the sleigh.

Now, it’s time to add the Christmas card to support the rest of your goodies.

Use tape to secure the card to the back of the sleigh.

I used one strip of tape on the front side of the card and candy tubes before I headed to the backside

Add more tape starting at the back of the card and wrapping around to the candy tubes and boxes.

You will likely use about four long pieces of clear tape to secure it to the candy tubes at the bottom of the card.

Place a bag of chips in front of the card.

Use tacky glue or double-sided tape to glue your candy Santa to the top of the movie candy directly in front of the chips.

Finally, tape the ornament to the top of the card. Most of my ornaments had plastic loops attached for taping. I used twist-ties to make a loop on the one that did not for taping to the card.

Tips and Tricks

To get the tubes onto the candy boxes, I pulled the boxes to the edge of the counter so the curved portion of the tubes could hang over while I glued them.

It took a few tries to get the card on securely. After trying glue and tape, I think that adding several pieces of clear tape wrapping from the back of the card to the tubes and candy boxes held the best.
