Boo your friends to add to the Halllowen excitement. As if Halloween isn’t fun enough, already. Add Booing to your Halloween Traditions, and you’ll have another fun adventure to look forward to.

Halloween is one of my absolute favorite holidays. I have so enjoyed this holiday with the kids. From making Halloween fun foods like melting witch bark or monster eye cookies , making fun Halloween crafts like this Styrofoam mummy ball, and playing Halloween themed games like pumpkin ring toss.
Boo-ing is something I had never heard of before moving to New England. Once we were booed, I was hooked.
The old question is, Is it really better to give than to receive? The answer is yes if you are booing someone.
Booing is a great family experience. The whole family will look forward to this night of boo-ing their friends. If your kids are starting in a new school, it’s a great way to add some excitement to their budding friendships. And, if they have firm friendships, this will only strengthen those as they giggle about it at school the next day.
So, How Do You Boo?
The idea is to put two Halloween gift bags together, full of Halloween goodies. Somehow, find out if your friends will be home. Then, when the sun goes down, load up the car with your family and the “BOO BAGS”, and set off to surprise some close friends or family.
Supplies You’ll Need for Boo-ing
- A Gift Bag or bucket – I made this Frankenstein bucket with a green bucket I had in the garage and a black Sharpie. Easy-Peasy.

- We’ve Been Boo-ed printable – 2 copies

- Halloween goodies – It doesn’t have to be extravagant.

Inexpensive Ideas to put in Your Boo Bag
For Each Child In The Family You Are Booing: Some Possibilities Include:
- A Halloween Pencil
- A Craft Project. Possible kits include a puppet kit, a Halloween bag kit, a haunted house kit, foam shapes with googly eyes and decorations, or a mini pumpkin with stickers for decoration.
- Halloween Coloring Sheet
- Crayons
- Spider Rings
- Halloween Candy
You Get The Idea. Most of these items can be purchased at the Dollar Store.

Exactly How to Boo Your Friends?
Pick two friends, or if you have four kids like us, cheat and do 4 -(one friend per kid) and BOO them tonight.
Preferably after dark, sneak up to a friend’s house with your Boo bag in tote.
Tip: Make sure your car is parked in a hidden spot.
Sneak up to the front door, set the bag down, ring the doorbell, or knock loudly, and RUN (most likely) laughing and giggling the whole way back to the car or your home.

Then, sort of like a chain letter, the recipients of your Boo are responsible for BOOing two people who have not yet been visited. As long as you Boo some fun and willing families, the fun goes on and on.
Another Fun Idea for Boo-ing
To add to our fun, we like to hide and watch the kids get all excited about the surprise on their doorstep.

Pro Tip
I usually ask the mom or dad if it’s okay to surprise their child. Once, a parent thought someone had left something inappropriate in a bag and refused to let the kids open it. From that experience, I learned to give parents a heads-up so that they can share in the excitement with their children. After all the anticipation, that’s half of the fun!
