The best recipes always come from my mom’s old church cookbooks. I mean, those guys and gals knew how to cook! These are no exception. Just look at that fudginess, (technical term) the layer of milk chocolate and the caramel oozing out!

Ingredients
  1. 1 German chocolate cake mix
  2. 12 oz. milk chocolate chips or semi-sweet (your call)
  3. 8 oz. soft caramels
  4. 2/3 cup + 1/3 cup of evaporated milk
  5. 1/2 stick of soft unsalted butter
  6. (optional) 1 cup chopped pecans
  7. 9x13 pan
  8. parchment paper
Instructions
  1. In a large bowl, mix the cake mix with 2/3 cups of evaporated milk and butter
  2. Line a pan with parchment paper and spread 1/2 of the cake mixture across the bottom of the pan
  3. Bake at 350 degrees for 8-10 minutes
  4. Remove from oven and sprinkle chips and (optional) pecans
  5. Bake 1 minute
  6. Spread the melted chocolate
  7. In a medium saucepan, melt the caramels with 1/3 cup of evaporated milk
  8. Pour the caramel over the melted chocolate
  9. Let the caramel and chocolate set for a few minutes and get stiff
  10. Spread the remaining cake mix over the top of the caramel
  11. Bake for an additional 20 minutes
