This craft idea is perfect for Valentine’s Day or as a fun craft with the kids. My youngest daughter used to use pretend food to play restaurant all of the time. This cupcake craft is perfect for that. Decorate the space with this cute pipe cleaner flower craft, or this plastic spoon flower craft, or make homemade sidewalk chalk for another fun activity.
Supplies Needed
2-in. Styrofoam balls – found in craft sections of stores ( about 8 per bag)
tissue paper – I used white to represent white frosting, but you can use a different color
cupcake wrapper – I like to use a stiff paper wrapper
Glue – a tacky glue that dries clear
Pom-Poms – Red & Hot Pink to represent the cherries
Beads – ( For sprinkles) – I used tube beads. Assorted colors look just like rainbow sprinkles, but you can customize this with your favorite colors
How to Make Paper Cupcakes
Cut an 8×4-inch piece of tissue paper.
Wrap the styrofoam ball with the tissue paper. The paper will be taller than the ball
Twist the top of the paper so that it crinkles up and comes to a point
Glue that into the cupcake wrapper
Trim the top off – if needed
Add a pom-pom cherry on top with glue
Glue beads on for sprinkles
Expert Tip
Use a tacky glue that will dry clear.Tacky glues will hold quickly and help keep the cupcake in place as you decorate it
FAQs
Use glitter, pony beads, paper confetti, or torn pieces of tissue paper
I like to use a tacky glue that dries quick like 3-in-1 craft glue or Elmer’s tacky glue
Variations
Use different colors of tissue paper to resemble more cupcake flavors – like brown for chocolate, or pink for pink frosting
