A Ghost Skeleton and His Ghost Dog

This Ghost Skeleton walking his Ghost Dog display is a fun and easy way to celebrate the Halloween season, bringing a smile to everyone’s face as they walk by your yard.

I love to decorate for Halloween. It is such a spooky and fun time of year to make Halloween decorations like this spooky Halloween tablecloth, Â this fun Painted Olaf pumpkin, or this Black Cat Painted pumpkin idea.
Years ago, before skeleton displays became popular, I created a roundup post featuring some hilarious ones. People flocked to that post to see all of the fun ideas, and now, over a decade later, I see skeleton displays in at least one yard per street. It’s so much fun to see everyone’s creative ideas.
Over the years, I’ve added to that post and now you can find over 30 fun skeleton display ideas to check out.
This year, my display(which I will add to the roundup post) features a cute little ghost dog and its skeleton owner, who is also dressed up as a ghost. I’ve had that skeleton for so many years that some of its parts are duct-taped together. The ghost sheet was the perfect way to hide his broken bones.
If you’re interested, I’d be happy to share the steps I took to create it.
Here are the Supplies I Used to Make a Ghost Dog and its Ghost Skeleton Owner
Ghost Dog – I used a wooden reindeer Christmas decoration from storage as my dog shape. If you can’t find something similar to my wooden reindeer, you can find skeleton dogs at most stores.
Ghost Material for the dog – I used some old white material from my Halloween bins to cover the dog and some black felt for his eyes.
Leash and Collar – I used Naturally Wired rope for the leash and an old black collar I had from when my own dog was a puppy. I think this fun studded collar one would be hilarious, though.
Stabilizing the Skeleton – I used a metal pipe that I pounded into the ground, some twist ties to tie the skeleton spine to the pipe, and duct tape.
Material for the Skeleton – I used some old polyester material I used for Halloween, featuring two black felt eyes. Cotton material is also perfect for this. I know many people use old white sheets.
More Tape (just to be sure) – I had to use more tape to secure the material from flying off the skeleton.
One More Skeleton Idea
This was a skeleton display from eleven years ago. It’s a simple display that is easy to pull together. If you don’t have many supplies on hand, this is the perfect skeleton display for you.

Meet Grandpa Fred—our Halloween guest who shows up once a year. My husband and son brought Fred (and his sidekick, Skully the cat) home back in 2014 to surprise me. I was thrilled but had no clue how to display him. For a few days, he joined us for dinner, dressed up in costumes, and even watched movies by the fire. Fred popped up everywhere—waving from the bench in the mornings or greeting the kids on the porch after school.
One day, my daughter decided Fred needed a little style. She propped Skully in his lap, lifted his hand to wave, and set him lounging on the porch. That’s when it clicked—Fred needed a chair. At first, I pictured him in a lawn recliner, but when I looked at our porch furniture, the vision shifted. And just like that, Grandpa Fred was born, relaxing in his rocking chair.
