How to Play BS Card Game

Also known as the I Doubt It Card Game, Bullsh*t, and we recently used Bullcrap as the name of this card game! This is an easy card game to learn. It’s a fun game of bluffing, so I think this game is good for older kids, teens, and adults to play. Obviously, you know what your kids are capable of, so you are the best one to decide if they are ready to play this fun family game.

If you are searching around for family games to play together, you might enjoy playing a Game of Spoons, or Come on Six – a hilarious game with dice

What I love about this fun family card game

  • It’s a card game that is easy to learn
  • Everyone has fun playing this hilarious game
  • It’s a great game for get-togethers, family reunions, and holiday parties
  • As long as you have a table, this game can be played indoors, in the backyard, or around a campsite
  • It only requires a deck of cards, so fun people, and a table

Supplies Needed to Play:

deck of cards

Here’s what you’ll need to play this game

  • A deck of cards – minus the jokers
  • At least 3 players and up to 10 – I think if you added another deck of cards, you could add more people to this game
  • A table – to sit around

What you Need to Know Before you Play BS

Aces are have a value of 1

Numbered cards are their numbered value

Face cards go as so: after you use 10 the next value is Jack, then Queen, then King

After King, it goes all the way back to Ace as the value 1 and then you count back up to King

The object of BS Card Game

To be the first player to get rid of all the cards in your hand. The first person to get rid of all of their cards wins the game of BS

How to Play the Card Game BS

Dealing the cards

First off, set the jokers aside. They are not included in this game

The dealer should deal all of the cards out with their values facing down – No looking

There might be an uneven number for some people, but that is fine

The first person to go is usually the one with the Ace of Spades, but you can pick the youngest, the oldest player, the player to the left of the dealer, and so on

The person that goes first should call out how many Aces they are setting down and set them down – Face down on the center of the table. It would sound something like this, “2 Aces”

Then, the next person clockwise, sets down 2s (face down) while announcing how many 2s they are setting down on top of the Aces

The next player in rotation should call out how many 3s they are setting down (face down) and place them on the 2s

This pattern continues around the table as you count up to King, and then starts over with Ace

Calling someone’s Bluff

bs card game

If at any time you don’t believe a player is really setting down the cards they say they are setting down you can call BS! (bullsh*t, I doubt it, or bullcrap)

Once BS is called, the person that is being challenged must reveal the cards they just placed down

If the player was telling the truth, the challenger must take all of the cards from the middle of the table

If the player being challenged was bluffing, then they must take all of the cards from the middle of the table just like my daughter is in the above photo

Expert Tips

This is a game of reading people. Try to watch body language and facial expressions to see if someone is bluffing

Another tip is to just use logic. Do you really think that person is setting down 3 Kings from one deck of cards? Hmm…They might just be bluffing. Be careful though, if you challenge and you are wrong, then you get all of the cards from the middle of the table to add to your hand

BS Variations

Other names for Bs are Bullsh*t, and I Doubt It. We used bullcrap and I think that is a good in-between slang word to settle on for the most age appropriate

For Bigger Groups, add more decks of cards. This is a fun game for large groups to play, so go ahead and have fun with it

If you choose to use the Jokers, use them as wild cards. If you get a Joker then you can use it in place of any card in the deck

Number of Players for the Game of BS

BS typically has 3-10 players per deck

Add more decks for more fun with friends and family
