This beautiful Turkey Pumpkin would look so great as your Thanksgiving Table Centerpiece. It is and easy to make Thanksgiving craft and a fun fall display.
This turkey pumpkin was on display at a farm we visited. While on a hayride, I snapped a picture of this turkey. As soon as I spotted it, I knew it would be a perfect craft or display for Thanksgiving. At Thanksgiving time, we love to make fun Thanksgiving crafts like a paper cup teepee, canoe craft, and a sweet and sentimental praying hands craft.
Supplies You’ll Need:
- A real or craft pumpkin (if you are going with a real pumpkin
- A real or craft “Summer Crook Neck Gourd” for the head and neck
- A Wooden dowel to support the weight of the gourd
- Assorted colored feathers
Equipment Needed
Knife for cutting the stem
Instructions
- Trim the stem off of the pumpkin
- Turn the pumpkin on its side so the stem is pointing forward
- Make a small hole into the bottom of the gourd and at the top/front of the pumpkin
- Ensure the hole is not larger than your dowel, or the dowel will not fit tight enough to support the head.
- Push the dowel some of the way into the pumpkin. Leave some dowel on top of the pumpkin to fit the head.
- Fit the gourd onto the dowel so the beak is facing down
- Place the gourd onto the dowel with the curve facing downward
Push a couple of layers of feathers into the back of the pumpkin
Place your turkey pumpkin on display outside or bring it inside on the day of Thanksgiving
Variations
- Try to carve a point in the stem of the gourd to look like the beak of the turkey
- Paint eyes onto the curved portion of the gourd
