Cream Cheese & Mushroom Party Rye Bread Appetizer

Delicious party appetizers that are sure to be a big hit at any holiday party. Made with cream cheese and mushrooms, these cheesy Party Rye Bread Appetizers are the perfect finger food.

Party Rye Bread Appetizer

This recipe is from my mother-in-law. She actually calls them Old Wood Road Rye Rounds. She named them after the road she once lived on because they were the constant appetizer for her street’s holiday parties.

Where Can You Find Party Rye Bread?
- Also called cocktail bread, party rye can usually be found near your grocery store’s delicatessen or bread aisle

What Cheese Goes Well with Rye Bread?
- Swiss, parmesan, cream cheese, mozzarella and brie all go well with rye bread
- In a medium sized mixing bowl
- Add softened butter, cream cheese, Worcestershire sauce
- Fold in mushrooms and onions
- Place the Rye slices on a baking sheet
- Set the oven to broil
- Broil both sides of the bread until they are golden brown – should only take a minute or 2 on each side
- Spoon the topping onto the toasted squares, spread it across bread tops and pop them back under the broiler for another minute, or until the top is a little golden

Cream Cheese & Mushroom Party Rye Bread Appetizer
Ingredients
- 4 Tbsp. softened butter – 1/2 stick
- 8 oz. cream cheese
- 6 oz. sliced mushrooms from a can and drained. DO NOT SUBSTITUTE FRESH – I tried – blah!
- 2 Tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
- 2 Tbsp. dried minced onion – or 4 Tbsp. of minced sweet white onion
- 1 loaf Party Jewish Rye bread
Instructions
- In a medium sized mixing bowl
- Add softened butter, cream cheese, Worcestershire sauce
- Fold in mushrooms and onions
- Place the Rye slices on a baking sheet
