These Owl Cupcakes are the perfect easy-to-make treat for Halloween, fall treats ideas, or back to school. Using the shortcut of a boxed cake and very easy owl decorations, these fall treats will be a snap to make.

You’ll notice that the cupcakes aren’t entirely frosted. That’s because there is plenty of frosting used to make the owl eyes. If you love frosting, however, then it would be a quick adjustment to just add a layer of chocolate frosting to these owl cupcakes.

You could easily make these cupcakes 3 days in advance. You’ll want to cover them and store them at room temperature.

No! You can easily fill a zip-tight bag with frosting and snip the corner to use instead. You can also buy a ready-made icing tube from your grocery store’s baking aisle and use that

Tips and Tricks:

  • you can use a round tip with a piping bag for the owl eyes, but you don’t have to. Try finding a decorating icing tube that has a round tip or use a baggie and snip the corner, instead
  • I used silicone cupcake wrappers, but you can use paper ones instead
  • if you love chocolate frosting, then feel free to spread a bit onto the chocolate cupcake before decorating it to look like an owl
  • you can substitute yellow Reese’s candy for the M&M

How do you make Owl Cupcakes?

Instructions: 

  • let your baked cupcakes cool completely
  • using the white frosting, pipe large and tall circles for eyes by layering the circles to make them tall
  • push yellow M&Ms into the center of the white eyes
  • use a little bit of frosting to glue the chocolate chips onto the center of the M&M
  • add upside-down candy corn in between the eyes for the beak

Ingredients

  • 24 chocolate cupcakes cooled use a boxed chocolate cake mix to make cupcakes or your favorite cake recipe
  • 1 16 oz. white frosting
  • 48 yellow M&Ms
  • 48 mini chocolate chips
  • 24 candy corn

Instructions

  • onto baked and cooled chocolate cupcakes pipe 2 large circles for owl eyes
  • place a yellow M&M into the center of the white circles
  • dip mini chocolate chips into some frosting and glue them to the center of the yellow candy
  • place a candy corn upside down between the white eyes
