  • It’s a refreshing drink
  • You can customize this drink to your liking

Ingredients

shark attack drink

Hawaiian Punch Polar Blast – I found that not only is this a tasty drink, but the color is also a great shade of blue for an ocean drink

Lemonade – It does not have to be organic like the one in the picture. That is what Aldi had available

Lemon-Lime Soda – You can use 7-Up, Sprite, or a Generic form of the soda as long as it is clear

Grenadine Syrup – This is easy to find at any store. It is usually used to add to cocktail drinks, so it might be near those types of drinks

Ice – Ice is important in this drink. You’ll need to fill your serving glass close to the top with ice

Equipment You’ll Need

Plastic Shark Puppets – I struggled trying to find sharks that could be sold in bulk for a party, at a reasonable cost and that I could put liquid into the mouths. I settled on these shark finger puppets, even though the photo did not show me a large area in the mouth for liquid, it fit the look and I was hopeful. It turns out that you can not fill the mouth with liquid, so I had to get creative with my sharks. I tipped them over and tried fitting them on the rim of the glass and that worked. The underside is the perfect place for liquid and the shark makes a fun decoration to add to the shark drink

I will provide the link below to Amazon which is where I found my sharks

A large Drink Container – The drink container should hold at least one gallon of liquid

Note – Make sure you carefully set the filled shark onto the side of the cup. You don’t want the red to spill everywhere. You might not want to transport the drink with the red syrup shark hanging on the side. Wait until you are ready to serve them or display them for serving

Adding the Grenadine to the Shark Drink

Step One

Pour the grenadine directly onto the ice. This way it does not mix with the blue. It should flow down between ice cubes creating a blood effect, and finally settle at the bottom looking like a layer of red

Eventually, the colors may blend together making the drink a dark red, and that’s ok. If a shark attacked, the water would turn red around the attack, so it works too

Finally, if you want, add the shark to the drink

More Fun Ideas for this Drink

Use a colorful or blue straw and a peach gummy ring to look like a lifesaver in your drink

Insert the straw and slide the gummy ring over it

Expert Tips

Pack the cups with ice

Do not pour the grenadine syrup directly into the drink itself. This will cause it to mix into the blue drink and might not create the effect you are looking for with this drink. Instead, pour the syrup onto the ice and let it trickle down into the drink. This will give you the look that we are going after. You want it to look like blood heading down into the water

Recipe Variations

I have another shark drink on this site that is absolutely delicious. The kids could not get enough of it. Instead of using lemonade, use frozen concentrated limeade

Use the blue drink, coconut flavored syrup like coconut slushie syrup, and lemon-lime soda

Make Ahead and Storing

You can make this drink in advance. Do not add the grenadine syrup. On the day of the event, follow the instructions for serving and adding syrup to the drink

Storing: Store the blue drink in a sealed container for 3-5 days. The longer you store it, the less carbonation the drink will have

More Ocean Drinks You’ll Enjoy

Serving Size

This will make enough drink mix to feed a crowd

Make 20 or more individual drinks with the blue drink

I used 9 oz. plastic see-through cups, but you can get larger cups if you prefer
