I made this water bottle bee craft on a spring afternoon when we needed an easy activity using supplies we already had around the house. The combination of the bright yellow and black stripes, oversized googly eyes, and fluffy pipe cleaner antennae made this little bee turn out even cuter than I expected.
If you’re looking for an easy recycled bee craft for kids, this one is simple to make, low prep, and great for preschoolers, classrooms, or spring bug themes. The water bottle gives the bee its perfect shape, and the cotton round wings make it lightweight and easy for little hands to assemble.
This is one of those crafts that looks surprisingly adorable for how simple it actually is.

I love making spring crafts this time of year, especially colorful bug crafts and easy recycled projects that kids can actually make without a ton of prep. Supplies Needed for This Water Bottle Bee Craft
- Empty water bottle
- Black pipe cleaner
- Large googly eyes
- Cotton rounds
- Yellow electrical tape
- Black electrical tape
- Beacon 3-in-1 Advanced Craft Glue or tacky glue
- Scissors
Why Electrical Tape Works So Well for Bee Crafts
The electrical tape made this craft come together really quickly because it wraps smoothly around the water bottle and creates bold bee stripes without needing paint to dry.
I also liked that it stayed bright and didn’t wrinkle on the plastic bottle the way paper sometimes does.
How to Make a Water Bottle Bee Craft
Step 1: Wrap the Water Bottle with Bee Stripes
Start by wrapping yellow and black electrical tape around the water bottle to create bee stripes.
We alternated colors and slightly stretched the tape as we wrapped it so it stayed smooth against the bottle.

Step 2: Add the Googly Eyes
Glue two large googly eyes onto the front upper section of the water bottle.
The oversized eyes are honestly what make this bee look extra cute and playful.
Step 3: Create the Bee Wings
Glue cotton rounds onto the back sides of the bottle to create wings.
We slightly overlapped the wings behind the bottle so they looked balanced from the front.

Step 4: Make the Pipe Cleaner Antennae
Cut two small pieces of black pipe cleaner and curve the tops slightly.
Glue them behind the googly eyes so they stick up like antennae.

Step 5: Let the Bee Dry Completely
Allow the glue to fully dry before moving the craft around too much.
Once everything is set, the bee stands up nicely on its own and makes a fun spring decoration or classroom craft.
Real-Life Tip for Making Water Bottle Crafts with Kids
Cut the strips of tape off of the roll and hang them from the counter or table edge so they are easy to grab and wrap.

I found it easiest to add the electrical tape before attaching the wings and eyes. Wrapping tape around the bottle afterward was a little awkward once the decorations were glued on.
If younger kids are helping, you can also pre-cut tape strips ahead of time to make the activity move faster.
