Can you cook foil packets in the oven?

Yes! If you don’t have a grill, foil packets are a great way to contain messes and use fewer dishes. Place foil packets on a baking sheet and warm the oven up to about 375 degrees to bake foil packets. Cook until done

How do you make a good foil packet?

Tear off a piece of foil double the length you’ll need for food. pull two sides up to meet each other and fold them over a couple of times to make a seal going down the center of the food. Now fold the other 2 openings a couple of times to make a good seal

  • 4 bratwurst fully-cooked
  • 4 hot dog buns or brat buns
  • cup green bell pepper chopped
  • ¼ cup sweet onion chopped
  • 1 tsp. yellow mustard
  • ½ tsp. caraway seed
  • ¾ cup sauerkraut drained


  • In a medium bowl, combine the pepper, onion, sugar, mustard, caraway, and sauerkraut
  • mix well
  • cut 2 long pieces of foil – about 16 inches in length and stack them
  • place the mixture into the center of the foil and add the bratwurst on top
  • fold the foil into a tent pack
  • Cook on the preheated grill – medium heat, above direct heat
  • Close the lid and cook for about 15 minutes
  • Turn brats over a couple of times during cooking
  • Serve bratwurst on buns with some of the sauerkraut mixtures


Oven method – 375 degrees – bake for 20-25 minutes
Campfire – cook over hot coals on a grill – for 15- 20 minutes
In Hot Coal Embers – place double foil packet in hot embers for 15-20 minutes or until heated through
