Mini Monkey Bread is the perfect finger food dessert for any party. Your guests will love pulling apart their individual servings of monkey bread. It’s a fun size for the kids, brunch, or summer potlucks.
Darn, these irresistible little pieces of deliciousness. I seriously had to walk away from the warm, tasty morsels. There is just something about fresh, warm bread. Add a little cinnamon sugar and a caramel topping to bread and it’s an instant dessert or breakfast food. I love that! Combining bread with dessert is always a win-win like this old-fashioned peach cobbler, crescent roll apple dumplings, and Skillet Berry Slump.
Ingredients
- Buttery Biscuit Refrigerated Dough – I bought a can of large buttermilk biscuits.
- Sugar – this will be mixed with the cinnamon to coat the biscuit dough
- Cinnamon
For the topping:
- Butter – You’ll melt the butter to make a caramel sauce
- Brown sugar – This will be added with the cinnamon to the melted butter to make a delicious caramel sauce
- Cinnamon
Equipment
- Muffin Tins sprayed with spray oil – butter-flavored
How to Make Mini Monkey Bread
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit
Open your biscuits, and cut each biscuit into eight pieces. To do this, cut the biscuit across and vertically in half. Cut those halves in half. You should now have eight pieces.
Fill a large zip-lock bag with the sugar and cinnamon. Shake the cinnamon and sugar to combine.
Drop a few biscuit pieces at a time into the bag of cinnamon sugar
Shake the bag so the sugar coats the biscuit pieces
Place the sugar-coated bread into the greased muffin tins. You should have room for 5 or 6 per muffin cavity.
Using a saucepan, heat the butter over medium heat until melted
Turn the heat off, and add the cinnamon and brown sugar. Stir the mixture until combined
Pour evenly over the 12 mini monkey bread
Bake for 15 minutes
While the bread is still warm, invert it onto a serving plate or a parchment-paper-lined surface, and enjoy!
Expert Tips
Only place 4-5 biscuit pieces into the large bag of cinnamon sugar at a time. Otherwise, you’ll run the risk of the biscuit pieces sticking together and they will not be completely coated.
Be sure to turn the heat off once the butter has melted for the caramel sauce. If you cook the sauce, it will still tastes delicious but it will get too thick
Variations
Sprinkle mini monkey bread with powdered sugar
Drizzle powdered sugar and milk glaze over finished mini monkey bread
What to Serve With

- Homemade Chocolate Whipped Cream
- Blushing Ice Tea Punch
- Homemade Chocolate Sauce
FAQs
Why is Monkey Bread Called Monkey Bread?
Nobody really knows how Monkey Bread got its’ name, but some people speculate it is because we pull the pieces apart to eat them as a monkey would. Personally, I think it is because of the sound of oohs and aahs people make when eating the delicious cinnamon bread.
What Else Can I Use Besides a Muffin Tin to Make Mini Monkey Bread?
You can use a mini bundt pan or use a parchment-lined baking sheet with mounds of 4-5 pieces of sugar-coated biscuit pieces.
