What I love about this Game
- This is an easy fall game that you can play at any fall festival or Halloween party
- Easy to set up and so much fun
- A fun fall game to play with kids, teens, and adults
- This game can be played during the day at school parties or festivals, or at night using glow necklaces
Supplies Needed:
A printable instruction card can be found below
- orange plastic safety cones – the super tall ones were a little too pricey for me. I wish they weren’t. The ones we played with are 9 inches tall. They are way more reasonable. I’ll provide an Amazon link, below
- yellow spray paint – I didn’t skimp on the spray paint. Get the good stuff that will stick the first time
- white spray paint – I bought Rustoleum Ultra Cover
- Glow necklaces – You’ll click these together to form a ring to toss with
- (Optional) Something to stand the Candy Corn Safety Cones on – like a hay-filled wagon or even hay bales
Instructions for Painting Candy Corn Cones
- Use some newspaper to cover the ground and spray paint the bottom of the cones yellow and the tips white
For Straight Lines
- I did not tape my cones off, because I do not mind uneven lines. If you look at Candy Corn, they aren’t perfect either. And, you know what?… The kids could care less that you spent an hour making perfect lines. However, you can use masking tape and newspaper to tape off sections of the traffic cone to obtain straight lines
Instructions on How to Play Classic Ring Toss
- Pick your teams and divide the target evenly between teams
- Decide on the distance away from the person to ring that’s challenging but doable. Standard rules say 15 ft. away, but glow necklaces might not have enough weight to be thrown that far and little kids might not be able to achieve 15 feet.
- To ensure that there is no cheating – It might be a good idea to place a marker down to stand on or behind
- When you’re ready, start ringing
Alternative way to play
Teams should have different colored rings to differentiate between them for scoring. A player on team 1 throws all of his/her rings, then a player on team 2, uses his/her fings to throw at the stakes. After rings are thrown, points are calculated for each teams colored rin, and rings are collected for the next players in line
Scoring Ring Toss Games
Standard Rules to go by for a Classic Game of Ring Toss – (Adjust it according to your party’s needs):
- Rings count as 2 points for a full ring and 1 point for a ring that is leaning on touching the target
- The first team to get to 21 points wins
Alternative ways to Score Ring Toss
This is another way I’ve heard you can score in ring toss
A full ring counts as 3 points
A double ringer – which is ringing the same stake twice counts as 6 points
No Ringers – the ring closest to the stake counts as one point. If the same team has 2 of the closest rings then they get 2 pointed
Expert Tips
I did learn that you don’t want to stand too close with the spray paint. If you get too close the paint will run. Listen to the instructions on the paint can, not the image below. That picture was just a visual instruction. Stand back and let the paint mist do the work
Ideas For Night Time Candy Corn Ring Toss
When I was thinking this through, I didn’t think about glow-in-the-dark paint for the cones. That would even be better. Maybe you can find some and kick it up a notch. Even without the glow-in-the-dark paint, it’s a ton of fun.
We had this near a backyard fire which shed some light on our targets. Just be sure you have a little light so you can see your Candy Corn Cones
One way to illuminate the Candy Cone Cones would be to place glow sticks near the cones to illuminate them at night

Throw slowly and while looking at the exact center of the target, aim for the center
