Frequently Asked Questions
Can I make bird nest cupcakes ahead of time?
Yes! You can make bird nest cupcakes 1–2 days in advance. Store them in an airtight container in a cool place. For best results, add the candy eggs the day you plan to serve them.
What kind of cupcakes work best for bird nest cupcakes?
Chocolate cupcakes are the most popular choice because they pair perfectly with chocolate frosting and Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups. However, vanilla or boxed cake mix cupcakes also work great.
Can I make bird nest cupcakes without a piping tip?
Absolutely! If you don’t have a piping bag or grass tip, simply use a zip-top bag and snip a small corner. The texture won’t be as detailed, but they will still look adorable.
What can I use instead of Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups?
You can substitute mini chocolate cups, truffles, or even a mound of frosting in the center. If you need a nut-free option, choose a peanut-free chocolate candy.
What are the best candy eggs for bird nest cupcakes?
Candy-coated chocolate eggs, such as Cadbury Mini Eggs or Whopper Robin Eggs, work best. You can also use jelly beans or pastel M&Ms for a softer texture and different look.
How do I store bird nest cupcakes?
Store cupcakes in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2–3 days. Keep them in a cool, dry place to prevent the frosting from melting.
